Mind changed

Megan McArdle, who blogs at the Atlantic, gained some current notoriety for writing about the Fort Hood massacre "there is absolutely no political lesson to be learned from this." Now she writes a follow-up:
. . . I have since changed my mind. That's because there's growing evidence that the army and the CIA knew he was a crazy fanatic who wanted to get in touch with Al Qaeda. It sort of seems like someone could have done something about that.
"It sort of seems like someone could have done something about that"?? We need very badly to figure out why nobody did.
